There were some thoughtful replies, thanks. I ostensibly have the same goals as the TBC; I want to see more people involved in cycling, and I don't want anyone to get hurt while doing it. I agree with Carol and the person who posted about the paintball (xm, maybe?) that sometimes people will randomly do really crappy things when they think nobody is watching. I offer that at least some of it probably would have happened anyway had you been walking instead of riding, the bike was incidental. Most of the people passing us in cars are just that, folks trying to live their lives. There are all kinds of drivers passing by us on the road; young and inexperienced, late for work, under medication, having an argument with their spouse, trying to find a CD to listen to...road biking is sort of an extreme sport, isn't it? That's really all I had to say, that increasing the risks by cycling recklessly would be bad for all of us; you may make a driver angry and they may take it out on me later, or you may cut in front of them and they may not see you until too late. Having said all that I believe the horse is dead and I'll stop flailing away at it.
