Ok...first of all...I am not a cyclist, I am a motorist.
From my perspective these idiots darting across traffic causing me to jam my breaks, throw my 4 year old daughter forward into her 5 point harness, and the rest of my children riding in my truck to scream at me because they got a good jolt as well, not to mention my wife wanting to cuss like a 20 year old sailor....is the issue.
Everyone is quoting the law.......How about common sense....1 person on a bike vs my 2 Ton Tahoe moving at 70 MPH.....That is going to make a mess on my truck.
The point of the matter is the people have got to learn to respect each other. And causing traffic to come to a screeching halt, and possibly causing a wreck has not crossed anyones mind.
Since everyone was quoting the law, I figured I would ask my best friend about this (he happens to be a DPS officer) and he stated that if the cyclist is directly responible for causing a rear end colision the cyclist will be held liable and in accordance to the full extent of the law. Meaning that they would be held responsible for all bodily injury, all vehicle damages, and what ever else came out of it.
So if common sense wont get you to stop - then perhaps the law will make you understand you car insurance doesn't cover you on the bike.
So good luck crossing that street....I feel sorry for the individual who doesn't make it one day.
